Bites is a book blog I started back in 2009 as a means to get better acquainted with publishing, not realizing how off the wall it would get.  It took on a life of its own and quite frankly I couldn’t get enough of it.  With a near-daily posting schedule, plowing through multiple books a week for the sake of reviews, all of the features I had, I was in it to win it.  In 2012 I moved from Connecticut to Arizona and apparently left my box of book blogging fucks back in New England, where they got buried under a mound of snow.  I just could not muster the same amount of effort to get back into the swing of things after that break.  So I didn’t.  I shut down Bites in October of 2012 after three and a half years of blogging, intending never to return.

Seeing as how you already know the end of this story, I guess you should have the why.  As much as my focus has shifted away from book blogging (and, to be honest, the pen of drama llamas that come with it), as deep into my own activities as I am, there was still a little part of me that wanted to blog.  I picked up a tumblr account and while it made me gloriously gif happy, it wasn’t quite hitting the spot.  But I didn’t WANT to come back into book blogging.  Gah, all that WORK.  As I sorted out the more than 2,000 blog posts I imported to bring everything here I realized I may have been a little insane.  Just organizing all the shit I did gives me a headache and has me reaching for a glass of wine.

Ain’t nobody got time for that.  I didn’t want to MAKE time for that either.  But I still wanted to talk about books, and maybe some other stuff, without any pretense or promises, without posting schedules or obligations.  If I don’t post for two weeks, I don’t post for two weeks.  If I post four days in a row, neat!  But now it’s about me and how I want things done, not how they SHOULD be done.  It’s all rather liberating and I think I can handle it.  When I have something to say I’ll say it.  When I don’t I won’t.  And that’s the end of that.

What you’ll find here now is a mashing together of the original Bites blog along with posts from a short-lived experiment called Bitching, Books and Baking.  The formatting may be a little all over the place and some of the links, especially on the Bites posts, might not work but I organized the important stuff (reviews) and the rest can sit in a pile for all I care.  Sorry.  It was enough work doing what I did.  I’m not OCD enough to fix everything else.  From June, 2014 on out, content will be fresh and new and crisply line-dried.

As far as the basics, my name is Donna, I live in Arizona with my love, a dogbert and an incredibly fluffy cat who maybe thinks he’s a dog.  Being an insurance underwriter pays my bills and funds hobbies like this and me interpreting my own head movies into written words.  I’m lucky enough to have moved into an area in which a high concentration of authors reside, where shopping indie is highly encouraged and author events are plentiful.  My addiction is happy.
