According to The Telegraph Anne Rice’s THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES has been re-optioned and will be made into all new films.  This disturbs me.  What disturbs me even more is that Rice thinks Chris Hemsworth would make a good Lestat.

Let that soak in for a second.  Chris Hemsworth.  As Lestat.  Thor muscles.  On Lestat.

And here’s Tom Cruise as Lestat back in 1994’s Interview with the Vampire, which was largely well-received and a movie even Rice put her stamp of approval on.

I won’t even mention Stuart Townsend in Queen of the Damned because that was an aberration that Rice despised.

How does one go from Tom Cruise to Chris Hemsworth for this role?  Those are two drastically difference constructions of man for a role that Cruise has pretty much cemented himself in as.

Now, Rice is, of course, more than able to fan cast her own books.  No one’s trying to stop her.  But I’m going to have to respectfully purge her mention of Hemsworth as Lestat from my brain and disregard her choices for such an iconic character.  She also mentioned Stephen Amell and Anson Mount who could also fit the roll, which just leads me to believe she’s watching some shows and movies and just likes these guys.  Amell isn’t bad just based on his photos but Anson Mount is rather past Lestat’s years, isn’t he?

If I were forced to re-cast Lestat I would say maybe Tom Mison . . .

Or Sam Claflin . . .

But Tom Cruise would be a hard replacement and the 1994 film is rather irreplaceable.  It would be hard to watch a remake although I’m sure I still would.  Grudgingly.  But a replacement for Queen of the Damned is sorely needed.  That movie was just . . . awful.  Now If I could just get through the series . . .

Yeah, I know.  Who am I to say anything when I haven’t even read them all?  I got through IWTV just fine but couldn’t get through TVL.  I think it’s time I try again.
